- Starting in 1973, worked as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor with the ETSU Department of Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Sciences
- After leaving ETSU, served on the Atlanta Committee on Olympic Games in 1996, working with volleyball Paralympics and serving as the Director of the Secretariat of Sitting Volleyball
- Returned to ETSU in 1996 and served as Associate Dean for the College of Education
- Received the Nike NACWAA Life-Time Achievement Award in 2003
- Inducted into Georgetown (Ky.) Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001
- Served as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Georgetown College for two years
